January 16, 1942

I'm cleaning out my cupboards at the office. Got short letter from Dottie and one from Clare and her boyfriend, Darwin. Had a family party at Cecil's and Aubrey's. It was supposed to be a sort of farewell for Doris and Lay and now we don't know if they're going or not! Can't find anyone to take Lay's place.

Tonite the senior choir had potluck choir at parsonage. Met Ann Fullerton. After practicing we played games and had social hour. June called up and said Ed and Larry were there and wanted to go ice skating. They came and got me and went in Wright Park. Had oodles of fun. Got letter today from Bill, my Yank; and pictures of Ft. Wayne from "Johnny".

Ed was supposed to come over and we were going skating but warmed up and he didn't come. Pasted pictures in snapshot album.

Tonite Doris and Lay invited us over for spare-ribs dinner. It was good! We gals hurried and did dishes for her and then we went to show "Belle Stars". It was good but rather sad.

January 11, 1942

Sunny and warmer. No Sunday School class this morning. Bud and Erwina and family were here for dinner. We gals went skating after dinner. Ice is swell! Ferris called up; I wasn't here so dad made date for me. Went B.Y.P.U. with Donna. Ferris came and met some more of my family. We went to Mt. Pleasant to "Birth of the Blues" (Bing Crosby).

4 below zero again! Tried out my new skates on river and it was snowing and blowing!! So cold didn't stay long but skates work swell! Ferris called up long distance and said couldn't come over 'cause roads were blocked!! So . . . stayed home and wrote letters to "Georgie" and Clare.
